How My Garden Inspires My Creativity

As much as I love designing, some of my favorite creative moments happen when I'm not sitting behind a computer screen.

They happen outside.

Among blooming flowers, buzzing pollinators, growing vegetables, and the quiet moments spent tending to my garden.

Over the last few years, gardening has become so much more than a hobby for me. It's become a place to slow down, recharge, and reconnect with creativity in a way that feels natural and unhurried.

And lately, I've realized just how much my garden has started influencing the future of Rosewood & Sage.

A Place to Slow Down

There's something about being in the garden that encourages you to move at a different pace.

The garden doesn't care about deadlines, to-do lists, or how many things are on your schedule.

It reminds me to slow down.

To put my phone away.

To notice the little things.

In a world that constantly encourages us to do more, there is something refreshing about stepping outside and simply being present.

Some of my best ideas have come while watering plants, pulling weeds, harvesting vegetables, or simply sitting quietly with a cup of coffee and observing what's growing.

Finding Beauty in the Details

One of the things I love most about gardening is how it teaches you to appreciate details.

The shape of a flower petal.

The delicate veins in a leaf.

The way a bloom changes colors as it opens.

The soft palette of a garden in the early morning light.

Nature creates the most beautiful combinations without even trying.

As a designer, I find myself constantly paying attention to these details. Often, I don't realize something has inspired me until I sit down to create and suddenly find myself drawn to a similar color, texture, or pattern.

It's funny how creativity works that way.

Sometimes inspiration quietly finds its way into your work before you even notice it.

Growing New Ideas

Lately, I've found myself especially drawn to botanical-inspired designs.

Soft florals.

Vintage botanical illustrations.

Garden-inspired color palettes.

Timeless patterns that feel elegant, cozy, and connected to nature.

It's one of the reasons I've continued expanding my floral car coaster designs, and it's also influencing some of the tumbler collections I'm dreaming up for the future.

The more time I spend in the garden, the more I find myself wanting to create designs that capture that same feeling of beauty and simplicity.

Not because it's trendy, but because it feels authentically Rosewood & Sage.

Lessons the Garden Teaches

Gardening has also taught me a lot about creativity.

You can't rush a seed.

You can't force a flower to bloom before it's ready.

You simply create the conditions for growth and trust the process.

I've found the same is true with design.

Some ideas come together quickly.

Others need time.

Sometimes a concept sits unfinished for months before everything finally clicks into place.

Learning to trust that process has been one of the greatest lessons both gardening and business have taught me.

Not every season is a season of blooming.

Some seasons are simply for growing roots.

Looking Ahead

As Rosewood & Sage continues to grow, I think you'll start seeing more botanical influences woven throughout future collections.

More florals.

More garden-inspired details.

More designs inspired by the beauty that surrounds us every day.

Because some of my favorite mornings begin with coffee in hand, walking through the garden, watching what's growing, and imagining what I might create next.

And honestly, I can't think of a better place to find inspiration.
