A Week in the Life of a Small Business Owner

If there's one thing I've learned from running Rosewood & Sage, it's that no two weeks ever look exactly the same.

Many people see the finished product—a personalized tumbler, custom gift, or beautifully packaged order—but behind the scenes there's a lot more happening. Between working a full-time job, preparing for an exciting promotion, taking care of my dog Levy, and continuing to grow Rosewood & Sage, life stays pretty busy. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Balancing a Full-Time Career and a Growing Business

One of the biggest things on my plate right now is preparing for a new promotion at work. It's an exciting opportunity that comes with new responsibilities, new challenges, and plenty of learning opportunities.

While my full-time career remains a priority, Rosewood & Sage has become an important part of my life outside of work. Finding the balance isn't always easy, but knowing I'm building something of my own makes the late nights and busy weekends feel worthwhile.

I recently added a whole new collection of Halloween themed tumblers which you can find here. Fall is my favorite time of the year so these have been my favorite to create! (More to come).

Vacation Didn't Mean Time Off

Recently, I took some vacation time, and while I definitely made room to relax, I also used part of that time to give Rosewood & Sage some much-needed attention.

I'm incredibly proud of what I accomplished.

Over the course of my vacation, I completed a major overhaul of both my Etsy shop and website. From updating listings and improving product descriptions to creating a cleaner shopping experience, I spent countless hours making improvements that I hope will better serve both current and future customers.

It's easy to focus on everything that's still left to do, but taking a step back and looking at how far things have come was a reminder that progress is happening, even when it feels slow.

Making Time for Levy

Of course, not everything is work.

Levy keeps me grounded and reminds me that it's important to take breaks. Whether we're spending time outside, going for walks, or just relaxing after a long day, those moments help me recharge before diving back into orders, designs, and future plans.

Running a business can easily become an around-the-clock commitment if you let it, so having that balance is important.

Planning for a Busy Fall Season

As July comes to a close, my focus is already shifting toward August and beyond.

One of the things I'm most excited about is working on new seasonal designs. Fall has always been one of my favorite times of year, and I'm looking forward to creating products inspired by harvest season, cozy autumn vibes, and Thanksgiving celebrations.

Seasonal products are always fun to design because they allow me to get creative while helping customers find meaningful gifts and products for the seasons they love.

I'm excited to begin bringing some of those ideas to life over the next few weeks.

Learning Something New: Embroidery

Another exciting project on my horizon is embroidery.

Not too long ago I purchased a Brother embroidery machine, and I've been spending time learning how it works and exploring its capabilities. Like any new skill, there's definitely a learning curve, but I'm enjoying the process.

My goal is to eventually expand what Rosewood & Sage offers by adding embroidered products to the website. While I'm still in the learning phase, I'm excited about the possibilities and the opportunity to offer customers even more personalized options in the future.

Looking Ahead

As busy as life feels right now, I can't help but feel grateful.

Between my career, my upcoming promotion, caring for Levy, and growing Rosewood & Sage, there's a lot happening all at once. But each new challenge also brings new opportunities to learn, improve, and build something meaningful.
